| It seems that a mother can never have enough hands, especially when a new baby
arrives. By "wearing" your baby, you are able to have one or both hands free and keep the baby close.
This is a medium sized sling, similar to a Maya Wrap. There is a pocket at the bottom of the
tail with velcro closure, which is perfect for holding a burp cloth, pacifier, diaper change or cell
phone. The Maya Wrap site offers
several links to video instructions on how to use a sling safely and comfortably to carry a
newborn or toddler.
The key for comfort is to adjust the portion over the shoulder properly. Stretch the sling out over
the shoulder as instructed to distribute the weight evenly. Some slings are made with padding over the
shoulder but this one does not. It is quite comfortable, as long as it is adjusted properly.
The "tail" of the sling can be used for extra coverage during nursing (not that I think that is necessary
aside from the comfort level of the nursing mother) or even to keep the baby warm in cold weather.
The following link will take you to a nice article to read and a good site to help you choose what type of
carrier may work for you. It shows many photos of dads using a wide variety of baby carriers….baby wearing is
not just for moms!
